COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Pensacola Beach is launching free trolley service today that runs daily from 4 p.m. to midnight through Labor Day—operated by Escambia County Area Transit, the service offers over 30 stops along the beach for a stress-free ride.  Pensacola News Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Escambia County firefighter Garey Buscaino pleaded not guilty on May 19 to charges of over three dozen child sex crimes—including allegations of digital voyeurism and possession of child pornography—and he faces up to 260 years in prison while being terminated from his job, with a court date scheduled for June 6.  Pensacola News Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Officials from the Pensacola and Perdido Bay Estuary Program will use a NOAA grant to have a vendor develop a Sediment Reduction Prioritization Action Plan that will identify over 1,700 sediment sources from roads and gullies which have covered oyster beds with up to a foot of muck. The plan—expected to take 18 months—will guide projects to reduce sediment and restore the bay’s oyster habitats.  Pensacola News Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Sandra Adams, a psychologist in Navarre, said TRICARE has not paid its mental health counselors in the Eastern United States since January 1—making her consider stopping care for TRICARE patients who are more than 40% of her clients. She warned that this problem may leave local vets and families with less mental health help and noted that both national and state psychological groups are working on the issue.  WEAR-TV
