  • On Saturday, May 24, beachgoers enjoyed the Memorial Day Weekend festivities at Park East on Pensacola Beach as many took time to relax in the sunshine.  Pensacola News Journal

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 17-year-old Navarre teen riding an electric scooter collided with a pickup truck at the intersection of Frankfort Street and Hemlock Drive in Santa Rosa County this afternoon and was airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.  FOX 10

CRIME NEWS

  • The Escambia County Sheriff's Office investigated a drive-by shooting on Saturday morning when deputies responded to reports of gunfire on Devane Street in Pensacola — they found a camper trailer was targeted but no injuries were reported and investigators are now searching for suspects.  WEAR-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Downtown Pensacola came alive Saturday as the Saenger Theater celebrated its 100th anniversary with a street party—featuring local nonprofits, food trucks, and two screenings of the silent version of The Phantom of the Opera. The street remained closed until 8 p.m. for performances and vendor access.  WEAR-TV
  • At a Tennessee wedding on May 20, country singer Jamey Johnson's longtime friend Nan Foster of Milton's The Cutting Board catered the event with Panhandle specialties like Seafood Sensation to about 350 guests including Kid Rock and Randy Travis. Foster also collaborated with local vendors—such as a mobile beverage cart and a Pensacola photographer—to highlight regional flavors and community talent.  Pensacola News Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Pensacola City Council approved a land lease for the $3M Rafferty Center last Thursday—allowing the Southern Youth Sports Association, led by Commissioner Lumon May, to build a state-of-the-art facility for underserved kids using private donations and a state grant. The agreement guarantees public access Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and assigns the city a maintenance cost of about $52,500 a year.  Rick's Blog

SPORTS NEWS

  • Gulf Breeze junior Addison Dahlem won the ambulatory 400-meter dash at the FHSAA state track meet in early May and earned the PNJ Athlete of the Week award (48.32% of the vote) after finishing fourth in the shot put and 100-meter dash and third in the 200-meter dash.  Pensacola News Journal
