  • Pensacola’s Emergency Care Partners secured a $100 million investment from MidOcean Partners that will fund acquisitions and new hospital contracts to drive growth—supporting care for 1.5 million patients across 63 locations. CRIME NEWS

  • On May 25, an Escambia County Sheriff's deputy responded to gunshots near 850 Fusion Bar on Plantation Road and fired at an armed suspect who confronted him— the suspect was taken to a local hospital and the FDLE is investigating whether his injuries came from the deputy's shot or earlier gunfire.  Pensacola News Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Manny Diaz Jr. will serve as interim president of the University of West Florida—replacing Martha Saunders, whose last day is set for July 13—with his term beginning on July 14; the board of trustees voted eight to two and will soon search for a permanent head.  Pensacola News Journal
  • Booker T. Washington High School seniors celebrated graduation day by walking across the stage at Pensacola Bay Center on May 27 & their families cheered the milestone. The ceremony united students & teachers as they marked the proud moment for the school.  Pensacola News Journal

  • Today, the University of West Florida Board of Trustees named Manny Diaz Jr. as interim president (pending approval from the Florida Board of Governors) after Dr. Martha Saunders resigned. He will assume the role on July 14 and brings years of experience from education and government.  University of West Florida

  • The Florida Department of Transportation completed a $2.8M project to resurface Gregory Street from north Palafox to east of 15th Avenue with lighting, traffic signals, sidewalks, crosswalks and stormwater management. Mayor D.C. Reeves said he will share timeline updates for additional FDOT projects next week — including Garden Street.  WEAR-TV
  • More than 50 experts are meeting today at City Hall to improve child care access under the new Mayor’s Childcare Access Program—Miami-Dade County Children’s Trust CEO James Haj will deliver a keynote on proven early learning strategies, and city officials plan a follow-up meeting soon to set a memorandum of understanding for the $1.5 million owed by the Escambia Children’s Trust.  Pensacola News Journal
