COMMUNITY NEWS

  • By the end of the month, 84 residents at the Max-Well Respite Center — a transitional homeless shelter in Pensacola — must leave as the landlord will rent the space to Overflow Health Alliance for higher rent. REAP is searching for single-family residences to help move tenants into permanent housing.  WEAR-TV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An 87-year-old Cantonment woman was airlifted to a local hospital after her green pickup truck collided with a red SUV at the US Highway 29 and Chance Road intersection on Sunday night—troopers said the SUV continued briefly and its driver and passenger received treatment for minor injuries.  WEAR-TV
  • First responders rescued Sydney the Rottweiler from a smoke-filled garage at Holley Court in Navarre on May 28 at 5:30 p.m.—using canine oxygen and rapid care before moving him from St. Francis Veterinary Clinic to a Pensacola clinic where he is under observation.  Pensacola News Journal
  • Two Navy pilots were taken to a local hospital after a Training Air Wing FIVE helicopter made a hard landing on one of the helicopter pads at NAS Whiting Field's outlying field in Santa Rosa on Monday, June 2, and the incident remains under investigation.  Pensacola News Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • On Friday, the Florida Highway Patrol reported that a white Nissan Altima hit a Pensacola motorcyclist on Blue Angel Parkway—striking a Nissan Rogue in two separate collisions—before the driver abandoned his vehicle at a Circle K gas station on Mobile Highway; the motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and authorities are seeking the suspect.  WEAR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Escambia County officials will vote on a $42.5M sale of the 541-acre OLF-8 property to Tri-W Development and Chad C. Henderson Enterprises at a meeting on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.—the site near the Navy Federal Credit Union campus will carry deed restrictions set by a county-approved plan.  Rick's Blog
  • Escambia County tourism marketing has been paralyzed as County Clerk Pam Childers refused to pay $2.6M in routine invoices, causing confusion among ad agencies and leaving vendors in limbo—threatening local jobs and revenue. She is set to meet with Visit Pensacola representatives tomorrow to clarify requirements while businesses hope for checks on June 5.  Rick's Blog
  • The SRIA has a $6.3M draft budget for FY2026 that lists 11 island projects including beach renourishment, new bathrooms on Casino Beach, and stormwater upgrades. The proposal cuts nearly 27 percent from last year’s funding—yet raises money for some projects—so work will begin after the summer season.  Pensacola News Journal
