The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly shooting that occurred in Pensacola on July 16 at 4:37 p.m. near Kincaid Street & Wilson Avenue, where one person was pronounced dead and one suspect was taken into custody.

Former Escambia County Sheriff’s deputy Jeremy Cassady, who was shot during a domestic violence call in 2010—an incident that forced his early retirement and led to a kidney transplant—died peacefully at home on July 15 from cancer his family said was linked to his injuries.

The National Hurricane Center is tracking Invest 93L—an area of low pressure crossing the Panhandle—with a medium chance of becoming a tropical depression within 48 hours.

It is expected to approach Louisiana’s coast today and may bring heavy rainfall that could trigger flash flooding along parts of the Panhandle and West Coast.

Federal lawmakers advanced Escambia County's $3 million request Tuesday to improve South Navy Boulevard—this one-mile plan will add new street lights, landscaping, pedestrian paths and a waterfront park to boost NAS Pensacola access.

The project now awaits further lobbying by state and federal officials to secure final funding.

The city is planning to redevelop Palafox Street with little disruption to businesses—evaluating a 5-month full closure versus a block-by-block approach over about a year.

Mayor D.C. Reeves said the project will update repaving, sidewalks, landscaping, and drainage and that contractor bids will be received soon with construction planned to start Jan. 2.
