- ➤ United Way staff and local media will accept donated school supplies on July 24 at six Walmart stores in Pensacola, Pace, Gulf Breeze and Navarre from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The drive aims to help students in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties prepare for classes starting in a few weeks. - ➤ Amy Roby, principal at Hellen Caro Elementary, was arrested for DUI after a head-on crash on E Olive Road at Kipling Street around 8 p.m. Thursday—she is charged with DUI damage to property and is held in Escambia County Jail on a $1,000 bond. WEAR-TV
- ➤ A 21-year-old Pensacola man named Darrion K. Finley was indicted in federal court on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and attempted killing of an ECSO deputy after he fired on officers during a December 17th, 2024 traffic stop near Aquamarine Avenue and Kentucky Drive — he will be arraigned at 11 a.m. on July 22nd at the Pensacola Courthouse. - ➤ Manny Diaz Jr. is UWF's new interim president and he spoke this morning about four big goals—improving academics, building workforce programs, supporting military students, and boosting local economic development. Diaz said he will work with base commanders and partners to grow research, study abroad options, and athletic programs. Rick's Blog
- ➤ Achieve Escambia is transitioning its core work back to United Way of West Florida this fall + the nonprofit will continue its educational and community programs without major changes in mission. WUWF
- ➤ The Escambia County School Board unanimously adopted a list banning more than 409 titles based on the Florida Department of Education's removal list—making Escambia the county with the most books banned by board vote. Under the new policy, the titles will remain removed until the superintendent reviews them for possible reinstatement. Pensacola News Journal

- ➤ In Northwest Florida, local survivor Bernie Stewart, who contracted rare Vibrio vulnificus six years ago, urges greater public awareness after the Florida Department of Health reported 11 state cases this year—two in nearby counties.
