  • Team Shrine & Swine, led by Mitch Esser and composed of local Hadji Shriners, will compete at Pensacola Eggfest on November 16th at Hadji Temple, 800 W 9 Mile Rd as they plan to win the first-place trophy and support local charities with their signature taco dish.  Local Pulse
  • Developers hope to transform the Blue Wahoos Stadium parking lot at Community Maritime Park into an entertainment and dining district—renderings show tentative designs for the next phase of the project.  Pensacola News Journal
  • A cook at Shrimp Basket on Navy Blvd visited a 78-year-old regular after noticing he had missed his daily gumbo and found him injured from a fall. He called paramedics immediately and has since been checking on him in rehab—hoping to bring his smile back with another bowl of gumbo.  WEAR-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Escambia County approved Foosackly’s plan on September 24th to build a 4,400-square-foot fast-food restaurant at 2605 W. Nine Mile Road in northwest Pensacola— the Mobile-based chain is known for its chicken fingers served in many ways and will open its third Florida location.  Pensacola News Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A recent appellate court decision lifted Florida’s open carry ban, and State Rep. Andrade said the ruling is common sense rather than a dramatic shift. He said legislators will clean up the law’s language and urged gun owners to carry responsibly — views shared by Sheriff Simmons and legal experts.  Rick's Blog
  • The Gulf Coast Veterans Advocacy Council held its annual Veterans Stand Down event in Pensacola on Friday to provide a one-stop shop of veteran services amid reduced federal support—aiming to lessen isolation and address homelessness among veterans. Navy veteran Warren Goins and administrator Lawrence Herring said the event gave participants the information they needed to access additional community services.  WEAR-TV
  • Pensacola Beach Advocates is exploring incorporation to give residents more control over local issues and will discuss plans at its annual meeting on November 5 at 5:30 p.m. at The Beach Church — guest speaker Chris Holley II of the Florida League of Cities will explain the steps and expected costs.  Pensacola News Journal
  • Residents of Garcon Point spoke at a county meeting on September 25 to ask commissioners for help over plans to build a 96-unit RV park near Escambia Bay; they worry heavy RV traffic and water risks may harm local homes. County officials said current zoning does not let them block the park—though the Florida Department of Environmental Protection may review its design.  Pensacola News Journal
  • The WSRE-TV Foundation said it would not dissolve or turn over its $5.5 million in assets after Pensacola State College terminated its direct support on Sept. 25—members plan to explore alternative ways to keep PBS programming available, including online streaming and other partnerships.   • Pace beat Crestview 34-8 on September 26 after star running back Makael Williams hurt his ankle in the third play from scrimmage + first-year quarterback Brooks Washington scored a key 58-yard touchdown run as the team relied on a run-heavy offense and strong defense to control the game.  Pensacola News Journal
