COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fall is here in Pensacola as churches, nonprofits and farms open pumpkin patches—Lighthouse Church in Warrington offers 1,110 pumpkins with games and free stickers for kids, while Milton sites host hayrides and mazes through November and First City Art Center unveils over 5,000 handcrafted pumpkins on Oct. 4.  Pensacola News Journal
  • The Pensacola Interstate Fair returns for its 90th anniversary from Oct. 16 to 26 with a packed entertainment lineup featuring local and national acts — events include a lip sync battle, live music, contests, and animal exhibits. The fair will also offer rides, food, and fun family activities such as a petting zoo, reptile exhibit and sea lion show.  WEAR-TV
  • Luxury homes and a boat marina are planned for the Barrancas neighborhood near the old Bayou Chico drawbridge— a 16-unit development will break ground Oct. 10— and the marina will offer up to 122 boat slips, a fine dining restaurant and a tiki bar to create a new destination.  Pensacola News Journal
  • The BlueAngels will practice five times in October—on the 15th, 21st, 22nd, 28th and 29th—with public viewing available at NAS Pensacola's designated area near the National Naval Aviation Museum, where gates open at 9:30 a.m. Officials said that if a spending deal had not been reached by Sept. 30, military leaders might have grounded the team similar to the shutdown in 2013.  Pensacola News Journal

  • The Greater Pensacola Chamber of Commerce held its 135th Annual Meeting last week at the Sanders Beach-Corrine Jones Resource Center and installed a new Board of Directors & Executive Committee for a two-year term. CULTURE NEWS

  • The Art Gallery at UWF presents a faculty show for John Markowitz from Oct. 2 through Nov. 20 to honor the late art lecturer's legacy—faculty works show his impact on artistic journeys. The exhibition is held in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts on the Pensacola campus and is free to the public.  University of West Florida

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A National Park Service report shows Gulf Islands National Seashore welcomed 7.8 million visitors in fiscal 2024, which brought $411 million in direct spending and $514 million in local benefits to the region. The report shows that 69.1% of the visits occurred on the Florida side—boosting jobs and business in nearby communities.  WUWF

FINANCE NEWS

  • Pensacola credit unions — including Navy Federal, PenAir and Eglin Federal Credit Union — are preparing to help federal workers and military if a government shutdown occurs by offering 0% interest loans and payment deferments to avoid payday lenders. Congressman Jimmy Patronis has urged lawmakers to reach an agreement before missed pay affects many.  WEAR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pensacola today launches new discount parking programs for residents that cut hourly fees to 50 cents and offer a $10 monthly permit for seniors—designed to ease downtown parking; other permits will also be available on a limited basis with proof of residency required.  Pensacola News Journal

  • Local husband-and-wife duo Mandy and Dustin Vaughn are reviving Tiffany’s on Pensacola Beach and plan to open by spring break—preserving its nostalgic charm and menu favorites that gave the eatery its community appeal.  Local Pulse

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The City of Pensacola announced Monday that it acquired the old Baptist Hospital campus on E and Moreno Streets through a donation agreement with Baptist Health Care—an approximately 41-acre site seen as a key redevelopment opportunity in a historic neighborhood. Demolition is expected to begin at the end of this year and finish in summer, paving the way for future redevelopment.  Local Pulse
