COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A new organization called Envision Perdido is seeking residents' input on community development and environmental protection by holding meetings with local groups in the coming weeks. The group’s effort follows a failed incorporation proposal in 2023 that led to ongoing discussions on local planning.  Rick's Blog

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Heavy rains on Sunday led to flash floods that forced Pensacola Regional Airport to cancel all flights—flooded streets near Pensacola State College and Palafox Street worsened the impact—and flash flood warnings remained in effect until 8:30 p.m.  Pensacola News Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The historic Saenger Theatre, which opened in 1925 along Palafox Place, turned 100 on March 17 with archival displays and tours—highlighting original theater pieces—led by local officials and archivist Dean DeBolt.  Pensacola News Journal
  • Pensacola's historic Saenger Theatre will mark 100 years tomorrow by showing its opening night film, 'The Ten Commandments,' and hosting free festivities with a street fair and tickets at the box office. On Sunday the sixth, the theatre will feature a screening of 'The Phantom of the Opera' and live pipe organ performances—continuing a century of entertainment and memories.  WUWF

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Escambia County's study shows that 85% of the area is safe while key assets like the Pensacola Beach Fire Station, Pleasant Grove Elementary and nearby parks and boat ramps face flood risk. The report by Jacobs Engineering and funded by the Resilient Florida Program will guide the county's adaptation plan and help secure grants for needed improvements.  Pensacola News Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Florida voters in 10 counties will cast ballots in special elections to fill vacancies in the 1st and 6th Congressional Districts with Jimmy Patronis and Gay Valimont running to replace Matt Gaetz—voters in Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties will also select a District 3 state representative. Polls are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. and nearly 60,000 early ballots have already been cast.  Pensacola News Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Pensacola's Blue Wahoos will play their first game on April 4 and executive chef Travis Wilson will debut new menu items such as a Garlic Parm Grouper Sandwich—designed to offer more than hot dogs—and specialties like Loaded Rueben Fries and a Patty Wagon Smash Burger that bring local flavors to the ballpark.  Pensacola News Journal
  • Three senior soccer players from Booker T. Washington—Felipe Lawall, Ryan Chandler, and Exavier Ali—signed on Friday to play college soccer, with Lawall joining the University of West Florida, Chandler with USC Upstate, and Ali headed to Huntingdon College. Their signings mark the third consecutive season a Booker T. Washington player has committed to play Division I soccer and bring the school’s total collegiate signings to 10 over recent years.  Pensacola News Journal
